It’s October and the autumn chill is already setting in. The mornings and evening are getting darker and it’s definitely getting colder. Here at LPL HQ, it is our favourite time of year with the trees changing colour.
You may find it tiresome and pointless raking when the wind seems to blow more leaves onto the lawn, but just keep in your mind all the lovely leaf mould you can make! It’s also that time of the year to start prepping for early frosts!
Here are LPL’s top ten tips for you this October:
Cut back perennials that have died down
Divide established rhubarb crowns to create new plants
Move tender plants, including aquatic ones, into a greenhouse or conservatory
Divide herbaceous perennials
Plant out spring cabbages
Prune Climbing roses
Harvest apples, pears, grapes and nuts
Finish collecting seeds from the garden to sow next year
Last chance to mow lawns and trim hedges in mild areas
Renovate old lawns or create new grass areas by laying turf
